Collaborative Online International Learning (COIL) refers to the integration of collaboratively designed projects within existing courses. Through COIL, students from diverse countries and cultural backgrounds participate in structured virtual exchanges and credit-bearing academic activities, such as assignments, discussions, term papers, presentations, reflective papers, and other shared learning tasks, all facilitated by their instructors. COIL courses typically span four to six weeks and emphasize experiential learning, intercultural dialogue, and the application of disciplinary knowledge in a global context. This approach provides students with valuable opportunities to directly engage in and benefit from intercultural and academic collaboration.
